National Wildlife Refuge

 

Covers 1,580 acres, over 50,000 marines birds of 13 species, 23 adjacent island and rock formations, all maintained in their natural state.

Mosquito Bioluminescent Bay

 

A moonless night spectacle! The microscopic organisms that shine disturbed are protozoan of the dinoflagelated family. The luminescence is a defense reaction. Access through Sun Bay. Route 997 km.7 Tel. 787-741-8683

Humacao Wildlife Reserve

 

Over 90 birds species, surronunded by lagoons, marine turtle nesting grounds,and recreational fishing. A great place to go kayaking. Route 3 km.74.3 Open Mon-Fri 8am-4pm. Tel. 787-852-6088

Ceiba Forest

 

95% of the forest is classified as 4 species as mangrove with birds, turtles, and manatees. End of Route 195, Santa Rita Sector Open Tue-Sun 9am-5pm

Cabezas de San Juan Natural Reserve

 

A 316-acre peninsula, showcasing many different ecosystems. Featuring a bioluminescent bay, a neoclassical lighthouse and a nature center. Route 987, Km 6. Open Wed-Sun 9:30am–2:00pm.

Laguna Grande Bioluminescent Lagoon

 

 Take eco-adventure tours in kayaks to the bioluminescent bay and lagoons, with licensed guides and equipment included. Located in Route 987.

Hacienda Carabalí

 

Horseback rides on Paso Fino and well-trained horses carefully matched to each rider’s ability. Located in Route 992, Km 3.0.

El Yunque – Caribbean National Rain Forest and El Portal Center

 

The only Tropical Rain Forest in the US Forest Service System. El Portal Visitors Center welcomes guests and educates them on the ecosystem of the forest. Located in Route 191, Km 4.2. Open daily 7:30am–6:00pm.

Piñones Forest

 

A 6-mile boardwalk that crosses over mangrove, forest, lagoons and beaches. Over 46 birds species, is the ecologic wonder in the island. Located in Route 187, east of Isla Verde. Open Tue-Sun 9am-5pm Tel.

Indian Cave

 

The national historic monument features over 200 petroglyphs. Located in the Arenas neighborhood. Open daily by reservation.

Conde de Mirasol Fort Museum

 

One of the last Spanish-built forts in the Americas (1845-1855). Route 989. Open Wed-Sun 8:30am-4:30pm.

Los Bohíos Beach

 

From this beach you have an excellent view of the Punta Tuna Lighthouse to the south. Route 760, Bordaleza Sector.

Lucía Beach

Punta Santiago Beach

 

Public beach in the breezy east coast. Located just northeast of Humacao. Wed–Sun 9:00am–5:30pm. Tel. 787-852-3066

Húcares Beach

 

Enjoy the new boardwalk with restaurants and vendors. Located just outside of town. Route 3. Tel. 787-874-0389

La Paseadora

 

Great snorkeling spot near Cayo Santiago, a research station for the Caribbean Medical School of the University of Puerto Rico. Boat access through dock at the boardwalk.

Seven Seas Beach

Flamenco Beach
